One of my number one recommendations and Simple Solutions for health is to avoid drinking water out of a plastic bottle. Not only is the plastic harmful to the environment and wasteful, those plastic water bottles are dangerous to you and your family’s health because of what we call ‘toxic tagalongs’ and their interaction with the sun’s UV rays. Whether you are at your child’s baseball game, sitting at the beach or have a water bottle sitting in the car on a hot day, it could be harming your body, creating a xenotoxin load to your hormone-sensitive organs.

What’s a Xenotoxin?

Xenotoxins are a type of exotoxin, meaning they come from the environment. Smog, pollution, cigarette smoke and even pharmaceuticals have xenotoxins in them. Some xenotoxins have estrogen-like properties and are called xenoestrogens – meaning they directly affect and manipulate our hormones; mostly for the worse, not better.

Xenoestrogens include some widely used industrial compounds, such as PCBs, BPA, and phthalates, which have estrogenic effects on a living organism even though they differ chemically from the estrogenic substances produced internally by the endocrine system of any organism.

The Danger of Heat and Plastic

When plastic water bottles get hot, the plastic leaches into the water, even in microscopic amounts – and this adds up the longer it’s exposed to heat and sun. Most plastic water bottles sit out on a loading dock at the store before they even hit the shelf, so by the time we get it, and if we further expose the plastic bottle to sun or heat, it is likely to release toxins over the threshold of safe levels into the water. Sadly, xenotoxicity is not tested anywhere in the supply chain or at your doctor’s office – no ‘official’ test is in place.

Where Do These Toxins Go?

What we do know for sure, however, is these xenotoxins tend to store in the breast, prostate, uterus, testes, liver, and even the neck! Yes, it’s believed that xenotoxins are one of the culprits behind the formation of a double chin!

When our bodies are high in toxins, and if our assembly line is ‘tired’ or compromised, then we will likely store these in the above-mentioned locations. Toxins also get stored in fat cells (a.k.a. cellulite).

The best course of action is to always stay hydrated, but be conscious of the container you are drinking from. Aluminum bottles can also come with some risks, so the absolute best in my opinion is to use glass.

Why Glass?

  • Glass is endlessly recyclable, keeping it in use and out of landfills.
  • Glass containers won’t leach chemicals into your water.
  • They don’t absorb residual odors or tastes from other beverages.
  • They are easy to clean and can be sterilized at high heat in the dishwasher.
  • Unlike plastic, glass won’t degrade or melt.

Detoxing Xenotoxins

If you feel you have xenotoxins in your system, you may want to check out our XenoStat™ product with loads of detoxifying and herbal nutrients to support your toxin levels.

Let’s be realistic, in our industrialized world, we’ve all been exposed to plastics and environmental toxins at some point or another. Take action today and make the switch to a safer, healthier option!
