Today’s Focus: Plastic Products
There is growing awareness that the chemicals found in many plastic products are toxic to the body, disrupting hormones and wreaking havoc on your health. Julie’s been saying this for years, and firmly believes that we can vote with our wallets to make positive social change.
One of the worst offenders, Bisphenol A (also known as BPA) is a chemical found in plastic containers, canned food and other household items. BPA’s potential impact on human hormone levels is real. According to California’s Environmental Protection Agency, BPA can cause “reproductive toxicity” in women. And a new study released by the Harvard School of Public Health verifies the growingly common concerns about BPA-containing products. The study says that BPA causes inflammation and autoimmune problems in the brain. BPA has even been linked to MS and other neurological problems.
Another culprit in plastic are the chemicals called phthalates, which act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Plastic can release toxins into your food – even more so after heating or leaving in the sun. Do not heat food in plastic or drink from a plastic bottle that’s been subjected to heat. You owe it to your health to find a healthy alternative. Use glass instead, avoid leaving plastic bottles in the sun or buy BPA-free, period.
Trust Organic or Natural —— >>>>>>
Typically we don’t experience negative health symptoms until our organs are already overloaded with toxins, so swap in natural, non-toxic versions of these products NOW. Why wait?
Top toxic products to avoid include [non-organic or natural] skincare, hair care, makeup, beauty facial lotions, bug repellents, cleaning products and sunscreens. Highly perfumed products will eventually overload your liver until you get sick. Ditch the laundry soaps, softeners and dryer sheets that are highly perfumed. Use dryer balls instead, if you like a little perfume add a few drops of the best essential oils.
Check back for a future blog where we’ll cover some of the other toxins common to daily life.
